Careful Consumption

What our minds consume daily plays a vital role in how we experience this precious life on earth. This life is such a gift, yet we love to fill our minds with so much darkness, which can really make life seem like a total bummer, when it’s really a mystical miracle that we are so very lucky to be a part of. Yes, the world is full of both, light and dark, but what you focus on grows. I was really inspired by what Wayne Dyer had to say about this in his book, Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling. He said that what we watch and listen to, especially on loop via the news, can have a profound effect on our energy and vibration. He said that the news is mostly low vibration content and when we watch it for extended periods, it lowers our vibration and basically just brings us down. We also get addicted to it, which is also no good. If you want to stay informed, that’s great, but there is no need to have it on constantly, as it is just looping the same things over and over and over again. Letting the news come at you constantly, even via phone updates, does more harm than good. It’s just eating away at your high vibration, bringing you down and making you addicted to hearing more. We humans seem to be really attracted to bad news, as it makes us stop and grabs our attention. But the more of our valuable attention we spend on the news and it’s never ending loop of sadness, fear, outrage and destruction, the less opportunity and mind space we have left to do the things that raise us up and make us feel good; the things that raise our vibration and make us more joyful human beings. Now, I’m not saying that you have to live your life under a rock, but you don’t have to be consumed by the incessant stream of darkness that is the news, either. Give yourself a break from the madness and see how you feel. I don’t watch the news much, but I still know what’s going on thanks to my husband and social media. If there is something I really need to know, I see it somewhere. I am not clueless and avoiding reality. I am just choosing to be the guardian of my energy and state of mind, which being the sensitive human that I am, can get really messed up with too much dark news filtering through my consciousness daily.

The more you consume an external flow of information, the less you are able to access the wisdom that is within you. There is great knowledge and truth inside us, waiting to be tapped into, but we go to our phones, tv’s, and computers upon waking, instead of taking time to meditate, journal or read something uplifting and inspiring. We start our days getting sucked into the muck and mire of the news, when perhaps we should tune into our hearts and souls and hear what they have to say about living the day ahead. We are inundated with more information from around the globe than we’ve ever been before. We could spend entire days reading news from all over the world and never have enough time to get it all in. While we should be informed, we also have to live our lives. We came here with a unique purpose. Our souls came here with a mission and I don’t think it is to watch the news 24/7. Too much static makes it hard to hear what we need to create a life we love living. We must start going within and listening to ourselves and the Creative Source that lives inside us all. Some call it God, others the Universe or Great Spirit. The name doesn’t matter, but having a connection to it does. Imagine a world where people spend as much time connecting to their spirits as they do being connected to the internet. We would have a very different world, indeed. A more peaceful world. A more loving and compassionate world. A world that would be thriving instead of one that is being destroyed.

All that is going on around us is just a mirror of all that is going on within us. Our hearts and souls are begging us to look within and do the work it will take to heal. Only when we heal ourselves will we be able to heal the world. There is still a lot of beauty, goodness and magic in the world, despite what the news jams down our throats every day. Maybe try spending a small part of your day looking for some beauty and goodness, and see how you are uplifted. There is a lot to love and be grateful for here. We are so lucky to be alive, even though it is really fucking hard sometimes. Enjoy this miracle of a day, my friends. They are all miracles.
